its lowly unremarkable beginnings were suddenly forgotten after the war
when the Fortune became the home of Flanders and Swann revues (733
performances of At The Drop Of A Hat). In 1961 four young
university graduates destined for individual fame arrived for Beyond
The Fringe – Alan Bennett, Peter Cook, Dudley Moore and Jonathan
Miller. The current production, The Woman In Black, has been running
since 1989.
Decor: Smart but minuscule foyer, no more than a mezzanine landing halfway up the dog-leg staircase between the stalls and the circle. Box office is a brass hatch in the marble wall. Small, handsome, business-like auditorium with grey and white colour scheme and sturdy marble effects throughout. Capacity 440
