first to be sited entirely underground. Designed by Thomas Verity
in 1874, the stalls are two floors below street level and shows are
occasionally interrupted by the rumble of Tube trains. Arguably the
most beautiful theatre in London. Sir John Gielgud made his first
appearance here.
Décor: All tile work throughout the theatre dates back to 1874. Has been refurbished to its original splendour of pink, cream and gold. Beautiful. Capacity: 590
