CRITERION
Piccadilly Circus W1

Charmingly Victorian theatre – the first to be sited entirely underground. Designed by Thomas Verity in 1874, the stalls are two floors below street level and shows are occasionally interrupted by the rumble of Tube trains. Arguably the most beautiful theatre in London. Sir John Gielgud made his first appearance here.

Décor: All tile work throughout the theatre dates back to 1874. Has been refurbished to its original splendour of pink, cream and gold. Beautiful.

Capacity: 590
