ROYAL OPERA
HOUSE Bow Street WC2 Often referred to as simply "Covent
Garden", home of the Royal Opera, the Royal Ballet and the
Orchestra of the Royal Opera House.
Designed in 1858 by EM Barry the current building is the third theatre on the site. The façade, foyer and auditorium still date from that period, but almost every other element of the present complex is the result of an extensive reconstruction in the 1990s Décor: Opulent, imperial foyer with grand staircase and information printed in gilt on panelling. Auditorium and foyer red and gold with numerous statues and busts, consisting of four tiers of boxes and balconies and the amphitheatre gallery. Capacity: 2268
