HER MAJESTY'S Haymarket SW1 Designed in 1896 by CJ Phipps, it is the
fourth theatre on the site – the original having opened in 1705. Under
the guidance of Beerbohm Tree, the theatre became the most
distinguished and famous playhouse in Europe. The splendid dome and
stone exterior were renovated in 1992.
Décor: Unusual wood-panelled foyer with mock-Tudor ceiling above black and white chequered floor. Auditorium in pinks and greens, with classical heads on side walls at upper circle level. Capacity: 1,200
