THEATRE ROYAL Haymarket SW1 Original theatre
built in 1720 and rebuilt
in 1821 by John Nash. Most
famously associated with Oscar Wilde, whose
plays, An Ideal husband and
A Woman Of No Importance premiered here. It was
the scene of the West
End’s worst theatrical disaster – 15 people
crushed in a stampede in
1794. Queen Victoria regularly attended using
the Royal Room.
Décor: Front of theatre has been completely restored to its original design in gold and cream. The foyer has been refurbished in period wallpaper and the original carpet remade. The auditorium and boxes have been recarpeted and re-upholstered. Its stage curtain is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. Capacity 888
