 HAYMARKET - THEATRE ROYAL

HAYMARKET - THEATRE ROYAL
Haymarket SW1

Original theatre built in 1720 and rebuilt in 1821 by John Nash. Most famously associated with Oscar Wilde, whose plays, An Ideal husband and A Woman Of No Importance premiered here. It was the scene of the West End’s worst theatrical disaster – 15 people crushed in a stampede in 1794. Queen Victoria regularly attended using the Royal Room.

Décor: Front of theatre has been completely restored to its original design in gold and cream. The foyer has been refurbished in period wallpaper and the original carpet remade. The auditorium and boxes have been recarpeted and re-upholstered. Its stage curtain is considered one of the most beautiful in the world.
