"IT'S
A PLEASURE”
to welcome you to the show and the Management
wish to thank you for your presence here tonight. “Music
hath charms" they say, and so we hope with music, laughter and dance to
charm away your leisure hours.
FRANK RAYMOND
The immaculate entertainer started as a boy with John Tiller
and
has been in every line of show business except circus and opera. At one
time he was even a bullfighter in Spain. Frank was also in the T.V.
series "Food for Thought; has broadcast in "Palace of Varieties" also
from Radio Luxembourg and filmed in "She stoops to Conquer" with George
Formby and Robertson Hare. [Note from your host: Actually the
film was called "He Snoops to Conquer" (1944) and poor old Frank went
uncredited. As these programme notes were trying so hard to big up the
achievements of the "IT'S A PLEASURE" players it seems rather odd that
no mention was made of Frank's appearance in five 1960 editions of the
hit TV comedy series"Whacko!" starring Jimmy Edwards. Frank played Mr.
Cope-Willoughby.]
VALERIE MAUGHAN
Started to learn dancing at the age of 4, when old enough
went to
the Phyllis 'Bedells School of Classical Ballet, then with Jack
Billings of T.V. fame with whom she learnt modern and tap dancing. She
has frequently appeared on T.V. Last Autumn she toured Germany as
principal dancer, at Christmas she was principal dancer in pantomime
and
before that toured as Ballet Mistress in "Chu Chin Chow".
TONI SINCLAIR
The black haired, smouldering eyed young lady began her
stage
career playing Boy Babe in "Babes in the Wood." Although a teenager she
has had wonderful experience touring England and appearing
in cabaret, especially at the "Stork
Club"
London. Last summer she appeared in the Harry Secombe show. Her
happiest
memory is playing Puck in "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
DEBORAH YOUNG
The baby of the Company by just a few weeks but certainly
not a baby professionally. " Debbie" has been appearing on
the stage since she was 7.
When
she was 12 she won a nationwide dancing competition thereby coming to
the notice of Billy Cotton and Max Bygraves. Since then she
has been appearing in cabaret,
clubs and
variety dates. Has won medals for ballet, musical comedy, acrobatic,
tap and solo song and dance.
PATRICIA BARKER
Our Pianist Entertainer
Many people all over the world who have been charmed by the
infectious spirit and personality of Patricia Barker will agree with
her recipe for a happy life - a wonderful sense of humour and a smiling
face. You will say "I have seen that smile before" probably
on T.V. commercials or maybe you saw Pat filming in
Trafalgar Square. Since the end of last summer she has had
a wonderful tour of
Paris, Rome and right across the Lebanon.
DUGGIE CHAPMAN
A happy smiling lad from Lancashire. He started as a Carrol
Levis
discovery, and now, although only 26 he has appeared in many branches
of show business. His Frankie Howerd face is an enormous asset and he
is often taken for him. You have of course frequently heard Duggie on
the BBC and he has recently concluded a very successful cabaret
tour
of
S.
Africa.
JOHNNY HARRIS
Cheeky Johnny is a jolly Geordie with a strong theatrical
background, his grandfather having toured America with his own minstrel
show. Johnny has played in many summer shows, he has been heard in the
Vic Oliver programmes Variety Playhouse, Mid-day Music Hall, and many
of the best London Night Clubs, He sings anything from ballads to
the
modern
"Pops"
accompanying
himself
on
his guitar, he
yodels and tells many a tall story which he hopes will
entertain and amuse
you.
MARY GENN & JAMES O'NEILL
Met in an opera at the Royal Academy of Music, London, Mary
was
playing Jimmy's wife, rather liking this role, thought it was a good
idea to continue in life so they became engaged. Luckily they were
continuously engaged together in grand and light opera. Jimmy was
booked as Principal Bass with the Metropolitan Opera Company and
later he appeared in leading roles at the Royal Opera
House,
Covent
Garden. Meanwhile Mary became known as one of the best Principal Boys
in No. 1 pantomimes. Between all this activity they sang with some of
the best orchestras. including three years with the Scarborough Spa
Orchestra. This varied experience of show business has equipped them to
present a show that is "not too low for the high-brow and not too high
for the low-brow" and with its modern outlook will delight
you on
your holiday.
