Raquel Welch leaves UK as critics hammer The Millionairess

Raquel Welch has flown out of Britain, fuelling speculation that the on-off West End transfer of  The Millionairess has finally bitten the dust. After a tour marked by big audiences and poor reviews, Welch left the country last week and a spokesman for her agents, London Management, says that the star has "no immediate plans" to return. A hostile press reaction during the early stages of the tour put paid to the show's planned run at the Albery Theatre. The Theatre Royal in the Haymarket was also thought to be a possible location, but staff at the venue said they had "no idea" whether the production would be coming in. No confirmation on the show's future was forthcoming from producer Duncan Weldon, who was unavailable for comment at time of going to press.

[Note: The production never opened in the West End]
