Rudesheim am Rhein. This popular and very lively
Rhine resort is steeped in history as can be seen
from the remains of the central Rhine's oldest
castle, the one thousand year old Bromserburg, but
it is still a town of today with a wide range of
hotels, restaurants and bars; and there's the
Drosselgasse (Thrush Lane), one of the world's most
celebrated streets - a narrow cobbled alley pulsing
to the sound of revelry. Almost all of its
properties are inns! There's also a sedate side to
this pretty town. A browse around a museum of mechanical musical
instruments is absorbing. A cable-car trip away
above the town to the Germania Monument provides a
breathtaking panorama, and you can stroll along
paths amongst flourishing vineyards or woodlands.
