1974 SCHRUNS Few details of this trip have been retained. Day 1 7 August 1974 Travel by train
from London, cross-channel ferry and overnight
continental train to Bludenz in Austria. Change at
Bludenz for a local train to Schruns in the Montafon
Valley, Vorarlberg.
Days 2 -12
8 - 19 August Arrive in
Schruns and stay for 12 nights at Hotel Krone

Hotel Krone dating from 1823 is a 9-minute
walk from Hochjoch cable car station and 13 km
from Gortipohl ski area. Amenities include a cosy,
old-world restaurant with wood-panelled walls.
Schruns has
been for over a century the renowned summer health
resort of Vorarlberg. Wonderful country with a
mild subalpine climate, in the midst of magnificent mountain
ranges of the Ratikon, Verwall and Silvretta,
where visitors will find all facilities for
perfect holidays. Easy and fine walks through
meadows and forests - excursions by cableway to
the Hochjoch (7.590 ft.) with panorama of 200
summits and peaks - mountain tours in wonderful
alpine scenery with great variety in fauna and
flora. Drive along the Silvretta High Alpine Road
up to 6,600 ft. at the foot of the Silvretta
glaciers. This road is considered to be one of the
most beautiful and popular panoramic roads in the
Alps. It is 22.3 km long and runs from Partenen in
the Montafon (1,051 m) through a total of 34 bends
to the 2,032 m-high Bielerhöhe (toll road) as far
as Galtür (1,584 m) in the Paznauntal:

chairlifts between 3300 ft. and 6600 ft. above sea
level. Big parking place at valley station which
is situated immediately at the main road. Cosy self-service restaurant
at the mountain station 6600 ft. with sun terrace
and wonderful view into the surrounding mountains. A system of well marked
walks and mountain hikes over 40 miles offers you
relaxation and recuperation in fresh forests and
mountain-air.
Days 13-14 Leave Schruns
by train to Bludenz and transfer to an express train
for overnight travel to a channel port for the ferry
back to London.
