1972 MONTAFON VALLEY![]() Aptly called the Alpine Park of
Austria, this delightful region has been blessed
with lush greenery, sparkling streams and the
glorious mountain scenery of the Silvretta and
Verwall ranges. Overland have chosen three
of the top resorts in this magnificent area -
Gaschurn, Partenen and Schruns.
The village of Schruns![]() All are
delightful with a champagne climate, glorious
walks and scores of natural and man-made
amenities. If you feel energetic you have tennis
courts, mini-golf and trout fishing or just take
walks on the green meadows and gentle hills. In
the evenings you may care to join your less
energetic friends in the cafes. Drinks are
inexpensive and for a few schillings you can spend
an evening listening to the music and watching gay
traditional dancing. On your journey you'll visit
the delightful principality of Liechtenstein. The
Montafon Valley is an ideal base for excursions.
Your Overland representative will recommend many, including the
famous Bavarian castles, and others to Innsbruck,
Lake Constance and Merano.

Verwall in Gaschurn is a very attractive
chalet-type building, typical of the many in
this area of Austria. The bedrooms are comfortably
furnished, and in addition to the restaurant
there's a separate breakfast room. At the
Verwall you will have a twin-bedded room with
hot and cold running water. Supplement per person for
additional facilities: Single room with hot
and cold running water £3.

the Silvretta High Alpine Road has joined the
Paznau and Montafon valleys, using the
threshold of the Bielerhohe, where the
ruggedness of the high mountain is tempered by
the serenity of a dam reservoir. Going up to a height of more than 6,600
feet, this half day excursion really gives one an
impression of the magnificence of the Austrian
Alps. Price: AS 90 / £1. 39
(ii) INNSBRUCK ![]() A visit to
the capital of the Austrian Tyrol is a must. A
city for
more than 700 years, and more recently the
site of the
1964 Winter Olympics, Innsbruck combines old and new to make it a city
which delights all. The guided sightseeing tour
includes the little Golden Roof, the Wilten Basilica which many
say is the most beautiful Rococo church in Austria, and
a drive to the Bergisel to see the Olympic ski-jump. The
rest of the time is free for shopping and individual
exploration. Packed lunch provided. Price: AS 135 / £2.25
(iii) THE THREE PASSES ![]() After the
ascent of the Arlberg Pass we climb the steep
road
leading to the Flexenpass, with a magnificent
view down
into the Kloster Valley. Continuing via Warth we cross the
Hochtannberg at a height of 5, 500 ft. which is dominated by the
Widderstein, an outstanding peak of the Vorarlberg, and
come to Dornbirn, Vorarlberg's economic centre.
Then we descend into Bregenz, the capital of
Austria's smallest province, on the shores of Lake
Constance. Boat excursion to view the harbour
